ÜBER | MEISTER

Vom 18. Oktober bis zum 29. November 2014 widmet sich pavlov’s dog mit der Ausstellung
ÜBER | MEISTER dem Verhältnis zwischen Meister und Schüler in der Fotografie.
Die Ausstellung, die im Rahmen des 6. Europäischen Monats der Fotografie Berlin stattfindet, stellt
jeweils eine Fotografie eines Meisters und eine ihres Schülers oder Assistenten gegenüber.

Als besonderes Highlight zeigt pavlov’s dog ein bisher unveröffentlichtes Werk aus dem Œuvre
F.C. Gundlachs, dessen Modefotografien aus den 50er bis 70er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts
heute ikonographischen Charakter haben.

Ausgestellt werden außerdem große Fotografen wie Nan Goldin, Arno Fischer, Anton Corbijn,
Evelyn Hofer, Martin Schoeller und Bernhard Prinz und ihre nicht minder bekannten Schüler und
Assistenten Markus Jans, Tina Bara, Anja Grabert, Stephan Erfurt, Juliane Werner, Marcus Gaab
und Andreas Mühe.
In der Fotografie gestaltet sich das Verhältnis zwischen zwei Künstlern auf besondere Weise. Es entsteht oft eine große Nähe die weit ins Private hineinspielt und meist über Jahre
hinweg bestehen bleibt.
Die Ausstellung ÜBER | MEISTER unternimmt den Versuch, dieses Beziehungsfeld zwischen zwei
Fotografen visuell sichtbar zu machen. Dabei wird das ganze Spektrum der Möglichkeiten
anschaulich, wie sich das Lehrer-Schüler-Verhältnis zwischen Fotografen gestalten kann: von
wechselseitiger Beeinflussung und Befruchtung bis hin zu bewusster Abkehr und dem Bruch mit
der Bildsprache des Meisters.

From the 18th of October to the 29th of November pavlov’s dog will present an exhibition that deals with the relationship between master and disciple in photographic art. The exhibition is part of the 6th European Month of Photography and will show one photograph by a master and one by his/her disciple vís-a-vís.

As a special highlight, the show will feature one unseen photograph from the oeuvre of F.C. Gundlach who’s fashion photographs from the 50s, 60s and 70s have become iconic images.
The exhibition will further present works by well-known figures such as Nan Goldin, Arno Fischer, Anton Corbijn, Evelyn Hofer, Martin Schoeller, Bernhard Prinz and their outstanding disciples and former assistants Markus Jans, Tina Bara, Anja Grabert, Stephan Erfurt, Juliane Werner, Marcus Gaab and Andreas Mühe.

In the field of photography, the relationship between two artists is often very special. A particular closeness often arises that reaches far into the private lives of the people involved and usually carries on for many years.

The exhibition ÜBER | MEISTER attempts to visualise this complex relationship between two photographers. Made visible here is an entire spectrum of possibilities of how the teacher/student relationship between photographers can play out: from mutual influence and inspiration to a deliberate departure and break with the visual language of the master.
